SK Gombak Utara mempunyai sejarah penubuhan yang tersendiri. Pada suatu masa dahulu, sekolah ini dikenali sebagai Sekolah Kebangsaan Laki-laki Ulu Gombak. Ia merupakan sekolah yang tertua dibina oleh kerajaan di negeri Selangor pada awal tahun 1903. Bangunan yang dibina adalah bangunan papan dan batu, atapnya pula ialah atap genting. Bangunan sekolah ini terletak di Batu 7, Gombak jalan ke Bentong, Pahang.
